visceral arches --> branchial arches

Typically, 6 arch's in vertebrates; in the lower vertebrates, they bear gills; in the higher vertebrates, they appear transiently and give rise to specialised structures in the head and neck.

Synonym: pharyngeal arches, visceral arches.
