Kruppel-like factor 4
A protein involved in several cellular process including growth, development, inflammation, apoptosis, proliferation, differentiation and somatic cell reprogramming which inhibits cell cycle progression following DNA damage.
Kruppel-like factor 4 gene is mapped on chromosome 9q31.2 belongs to the kruppel family of transcription factors that has been dependent to be oncogene or tumor suppressor. It is important to maintain the integrity, genetic stability and proper progression of cell cycle as well as mediator of p53 dependent growth arrest in the G1/S phase of cell cycle following DNA breakage.
Kruppel-like factor 4 is highly expressed in primary breast ductal carcinoma and oralsquamous cell carcinoma whereas it is less expressed in various human cancers including pancreatic, gastric, bladder, esophageal, colorectal, lung and urinary bladder. It is involved in the development of skeletal and kidney as well as the differentiation of epithelial cells.
Gene name: KLF4
