noun, plural: ginglymi

A synovial joint in which the transversely cylindrical convexity on one bone fits into a corresponding concavity on the other, resulting in movement limited to only one plane (i.e. forward or backward).


Examples are the interphalangeal joints and the joint between the humerus and the ulna.
