(genetics) Of or pertaining to being genetically or genotypically different at a particular locus or on a limited genetic region.

The term congenic is used to refer to strains of an organism that are genetically identical except for a limited genetic region or locus. For instance, a homozygous strain of mouse can be said to be congenic to another strain of mice at a particular locus.
