Auditory nerve

(Science: anatomy, neurology) cranial nerve viii is responsible for the sense of hearing and balance (body position sense). Lesions of the eighth nerve can result in deafness, tinnitus, dizziness, vertigo and vomiting. A composite sensory nerve supplying the hair cells of the vestibular organ and the hair cells of the cochlea.The nerve responsible for carrying messages from the ear to the brain, where sounds can be interpreted by the brain.
