A species of mammalian type c retroviruses (retroviruses type c, mammalian) isolated from fibrosarcoma in cats. The virus is actually a recombinant feline leukaemia virus (felv) where part of the genome has been replaced by cellular oncogenes. It is unique to individuals and not transmitted naturally to other cats. Fesv is replication defective and requires felv to reproduce.
