sambur

(Science: zoology) An East indian deer (Rusa Aristotelis) having a mane on its neck. Its antlers have but three prongs. Called also gerow. The name is applied to other species of the genus Rusa, as the Bornean sambur (R. Equina).

Origin: Hind. Sambar, sabar.
