psyllium seed

The cleaned, dried ripe seed of plantago indica or of P. Ovata. A mild cathartic that acts by absorbing water and providing indigestible mucilaginous bulk for the intestines. Must not be used in intestinal obstruction.

Synonym: plantago seed, plantain seed.
