Pontine cistern

A large, fluid-filled cistern found on the ventral aspect of the pons.


It occurs as a large space filled with cerebrospinal fluid. It is found in front of the pons with the cisterna interpeduncularis.

Word origin: pontine » Latin pōns, pont-, bridge + cistern.

Also called: cisterna pontis.
