Surgical procedure in which an opening or window in the pericardium is created.


This surgical procedure is carried out such as in patients with cardiac tamponade. It is made in order to drain the fluid that accumulates inside the pericardial sac around the heart.

Variant: pericardial window technique.
Synonym: pericardiostomy.
