Intercalary neuron

A neuron of the central nervous system connecting the afferent neuron with the efferent neuron.


Example of intercalary neuron is any of the interneurons in the central nervous system, such as the Golgi cells and stellate cells in the cerebellum.

Word origin: Latin intercalārius, intercalāris, from intercalāre (to intercalate) + neuron.
