Hypoxia-inducible factor 1alpha
Hypoxia-inducible factor 1-alpha is encoded by the HIF1A gene wherein two different transcripts of isoform have been identified. HIF-1alpha belongs to the subfamily of the basic helix-loop-helix family of transcription factors. This alpha subunit of HIF is hydroxylated at preserved proline residues by an enzyme prolyl-hydroxylase permitting recognition and ubiquitination that marked for fast degradation by the proteasome.
