Any of the macrophages originating from monocytes or from smooth muscle cells that have accumulated low density lipoproteins through endocytosis, and found in fatty streaks on the arterial wall.


Foam cells can infiltrate arterial walls where they may cause formation of fatty like streaks, and eventually atherosclerosis.
