A Candida infection of the moist cutaneous areas of the o\esophagus, characterised by oral lesions and pain on swallowing.


Supplement

The most commonly involved species is the Candida albicans. Since the species is an opportunistic pathogen, the infection is often observed in patients whose immune system is compromised (e.g. HIV patients).
