Alternation of generations, i.e. alternation of sexual reproduction and asexual reproduction.

Digenesis involves two methods of reproduction that occur in succession, as seen in malarial parasites and some trematode flatworms. For instance, the sexual reproduction involves the male and female gametes whereas the asexual reproduction involves budding or bud formation.
