Modern tools and technologies (e.g. molecular biology, electrophysiology, computational methods, etc.) led to the advancement of research on nervous system. As a result, neuroscience is now comprised of various branches.
The developmental neuroscience is a branch of neuroscience that is concerned with the development of the nervous system. It aims to identify and describe the cellular basis and the mechanisms involved in neural development. Neural development includes all the developmental processes of the nervous system of animals, i.e. from the time of embryogenesis to adulthood. As such, the developmental neuroscience is a branch of neuroscience that incorporates developmental biology to neuroscience. Developmental biology tackles the development of an organism from its early immature form (embryonic stages) to adulthood.
This field aims not only to delineate the mechanism of the development of the nervous system but it also attempts to identify developmental disorders associated with it as well as insights on potential treatments.
