Central demyelination

The eventual loss (due to a pathological destruction) of myelin sheath surrounding the nerve fibers of the central nervous system.


Central demyelination is one of the two major types of demyelination. The other is peripheral demyelination. An example of central demyelination is that occurs in the neurons of individuals with multiple sclerosis.
