Brain natriuretic peptide

A natriuretic peptide comprised of 32 amino acids, and secreted by the ventricular heart muscle cell in response to excessive distention of cardiomyocytes.


This peptide is first identified in porcine brain (hence the name). In humans, it is primarily produced in the ventricles.
