Bovine Spongiform Encephalopathy BSE

A disease in cattle that can be transmitted to humans in the human form of 'mad cow disease, cjd (Creutzfeldt-Jacob disease). It is caused by a prion protein (called a prion) that effects the brain in ways not entirely clear to scientists at this time, but can prove fatal via a reaction within the human nervous system.
