what's the idfference between crossing over and genetic recombination?
or is it the same thing?

no, they are not the same thing. genetic recombination includes crossing-over, but also other things like the random distribution of chromosomes in daughter cells.

crossing-over is typically in reproductive cells, but genetic recombination in general can also occur in somatic cells.

Recombination can be occur by other processes also.... looping .... some transposons...

Crossing over results in genetic recombination.
Genetic recombination is not generated only from crossing over.

If crossing over is a truck, then genetic recombination is a car.
Truck is a kind of car, however cars are not always trucks ;)
