why does offspring always resemble their parent?

i know during DNA replication, one strand is always conserved.free nucleotides are added to the parent strand.

but how does it relate to the question?
dont we need to consider meiosis,fertilisation.or other factors

the question doesnt say. but it is in the topic of DNA replcation.so i guess we would say something about DNA replication such as semi-conservative.
but this doesnt sound ok to me

i look a lot like my grandfather actually. I seem to have inherited a lot of recessive characteristics..
