Venomous and poisonous

Post by Venomousandpoisonous » Tue Dec 05, 2006 9:13 pm

Hello, a friend of mine is very ignorant in this topic and doesn't realize the difference between venomous and poisonous. He said, "Spiders are poisonous" and i told him that they're "venomous." After this, he said that there's no difference. If someone could please explain to him the difference, I would appreciate it. Thank you.

Venoms are injected to cause their effect.

Poisons are absorbed through epithelial cells.

So, toxic bites and stings are venomous. Toxins that you absorb through the skin or consume are poisonous.

venom contains protins and enzymes and secreted by animals it shows its effect when injected into the body of victim.
while poison can be any chemical or compound and shows its adverse effect when it is taken orally.
according to the law of Toxicology 'Each and every substance acts as a poison when it is consumed in a very large quantity'
