out of these groups: carboxyl, hydroxyl, hydrocarbon chain, methyl, ketone.

which group(s) - there may be more than one for each:

1 - increase a molecule's solubility?
2 - is an acidic group?
3 - is a basic group?
4 - is a reducing group?

Solubility depends on polarity and interactions between solute and solvent, acids are proton donors, bases are proton acceptors, reducing groups can donate e-. Work it out.
