Post by janellebrownlow » Tue May 10, 2005 8:04 am

Hi
This may seem heaps basic, but it is confusing me like anything..
1. where is DNA found
2. where are chromosomes found?
3. where are genes found?
4. what is the function of DNA?
5. what is the funtion of genes?
6. what is the function of chromosomes?
PLEASE HELP!
i dont want to fail!
janelle.

Every one of those questions can be answered by referencing the dictionary at the top-right of the page. I recommend looking there first.

What is confusing about the location of DNA?

1. Where is DNA found - Nucleus
2. Where are chromosomes found? Nucleus - Only visible during mitosis
3. Where are genes found? - In chromosomes
4. What is the function of DNA? - Storage of cells genetic information - Protein synthesis and replication
5. What is the function of genes? - Protein synthesis - RNA is transcribed from extrons
6. What is the function of chromosomes? - To package the DNA - Protect the DNA

wanna add:
1.You can also find DNA in mitohondria and hloroplast.
5.Gene can store genetic information for: protein synthesis,tRNA,rRNA.

Chromosomes = condensed DNA + histones
Q: Why are chemists great for solving problems?
A: They have all the solutions.
