classification of a new subtype with DNA-sequence

Post by baranthos » Mon Oct 30, 2006 12:25 pm

Hi,
I have a little problem with phylogeny. I got some sequences of the same kind of virus and alligned them by MEGA 3.1. After I found several substitutions and constructed a phylogenetic tree via neighbor joining and bootstrapping, I´m now totally confused how to interpret my results. How many percent of substitutions are needed between clades of a tree to define a new subtype or lineage???

I hope anyone will be able to help me with this problem.
