Chromosome Questions

Post by dylancampbell » Sat Oct 28, 2006 4:25 pm

Any help answering these questions for my Bio lab would be greatly appreciated. We were looking at an onion root tip's cells to observe the different stages of mitosis going on, and counting the chromosomes we saw in each cell (during Anaphase).

1) If the number of chromosomes is constant for a species, why were there different numbers of chromosomes seen in different cells?

2) If your analysis shows that two samples have the same number of chromosomes, does this prove that they are the same species? Do all species have different numbers of chromosomes?
