Drawing structures

Post by biology_06er » Thu Oct 26, 2006 9:08 pm

First off...Whats a good way to remember structures...I have a exam next thursday and whilst gng ova past tests I saw most questions were related to structure drawings of fatty acid oxdn, tyrosine synthesis, ketogenesis..ANYTHING metabolism....i counted around 50 or so i have to remeber-ANY useful adive on how to remember them-

anyway my question is..
i had to draw C16 acyl-CoA

we were given CH3(CH2)11CH2......

I finished it off by writing CH2CH2CO-CoA..

is this right?

Thanks

well eh no... I dont have this completly fresh but, havent u forgotten the 16 carbons?
you said u were given CH3(CH2)11CH2...... was that all, that doesnt do much except making me not understanding why its given.

oh now I understand, u were going to draw the rest of the molecule....bing bing the coin fell down now. you forgot the sulphur linking the carbon chain to the CoA (CO-S-CoA)

Ok well besides the S linkage is it right?

Is it ALWAYS written with a sulphur linkages CO-S-CoA--cos I'm preeety sure I've seen it without (I'll have another look though)--but yeah is it best to write it with a S?

yes I cant see any wrong with your answer except the S.

I havent found it written as u got in this assignment, CH2CH2CO...
only as structural forms so I cant answer that question for sure.

I think people have misunderstood my question

we were given the name C16 acyl-CoA and were asked to draw it and were given the starting...

CH3(CH2)11CH2...and then I had to finish it off from there

and I wrote CH2CH2CO-CoA (but now I would put in the S)

so is my "filled in" answer correct (with the S)

Thanks
