Please help identify this spider

I have been remodeling our deck recently.
During the Deck Demo, I found this on the deck railing one night.
It is straddling the narrow side of a 2 x 4 so it's approx. 1 1/2" leg span.
I will be forever in your debt.

I would say it is some Orb web spider of the genus Araneus .
You can google Araneus and look at pictures.

Although you may need a more detailed book to find the exact species. Book stores usualy have guides for your location.
