:D that's a good blog, I like it...however, I've something to add (and please make corrections if I also make mistakes...)

1. Mouth
Well, not all the amylum will be degraded to maltose by salivary amylase. As I know in Biochemistry, there's alpha and beta amylase in which alpha amylase will degrade amylum into maltose and dextran, while beta amylase will degrade amylum into maltose...now, which one is salivary amylase?is it alpha or beta?

I'll add more another time...:D
Q: Why are chemists great for solving problems?
A: They have all the solutions.

How about this?
I think there's some kind of microbes inside the large intestine, so, beside extracting excess water, I think there's other uses of large intestine especially related with those microbes....and don't forget, when we're dealing with microbes, we're dealing with immune system also...

another thing, I think I've heard one function of coecum even though most of us won't consider it as a remarkable function. It also serves in supporting our immune system (but only small portion, because our coecum are nearly vestigial)

Please look for references for confirmations...
