You could let it be free. Alternatively try http://www.chameleonsonline.com/board

My snake gets really testy when she's getting ready to shed. Lizards usually do it in bits and pieces, and none of mine get moody during a shed, but I don't know about chameleons.

That may also explain the staying-one-color thing. Wait it out for a bit.

Of course, it could be something else entirely.

When chameleons are stressed they show darker colors like brown or even gray. Young veiled chameleons get easily stressed when they are being picked up, in fact picking up your chameleon is ahorrible idea. They're not meant to be a handled pet, they're more like fish. If you must take it out, take it out once every month or so, to get him used to humans and such. And also don't spray him down with water when he hisses, it's not a dog, it'll just get more stressed. If he hisses, just back off and let him be. Good luck with it, chameleons are hard pets to care for.

to get him to like you or tame try buying some waxworms and hand feed them to him they love them but dont do it to often or he may get hooked on them and not except any other food good luck with that hope it helps

You have a nice friend at heart he or she is just expressing how unconfortable it is or intimadated by you size. i would just try to spend more time with it not handling it but just watch it or something so that it knows that your watching. try to show your appreciation for the creature. create a bond.

i need help!

Post by kasied07 » Sat Sep 16, 2006 2:52 pm

well first of all when you pick up the chameleon by its sides or its back its a sign of agression  .. when you want to hold him/her place your hand under the front of its body.. it will then crawl on you if it wants too.. also :x DONT :x spray him.. he gets scarred thats y he runs... they drink water off of leaves.. i suggest a fake plant and get a bottle that can drip onto the leave.. then he will drink it.. mine drinks off my hand.. and if u want him.her to really love you.. try hand feeding it every now and then its a sign that you are not a physical threat to it .. good luck let me know if u need any more help...

You have to research on the behavior of chameleons so that you will know what to do. Hissing might be a defense behavior of the animal to warn you not to come near him. I know previously you held him, but we dont know that time he is weak and stressed unable to protect itself. But now as it regains strength, it can fight back to you just to protect itself. That animal is considered wild and most reptiles never acknowledge its master unlike the dogs.
