biosynthesis of cysteine and methionine

Post by purpleblob » Sun Aug 27, 2006 1:48 am

hello. I'm looking for information about cysteine and methionine. I've found bit of infomation here and there.. but what I'm also interested in is the chemistry behind it. for example, during cysteine synthesis in plants and bacteria.. I was wondering how sulphate kicks 2 of the phosphate group off and get attached to ATP to form APS.... and also how O-acetylserine thiol-lyase work. I dont know how SH kick out acetate group and get attatched to form cysteine.. plz help me out. Im new to biochem... thanx in advance :)

check out 'Biochemistry' by Berg et al. I bet they will describe it.
