why is it that mammals and birds tend to eat more then other vertebrates :?:

because they have a constant body temperature that is kept by a very active metabolism. In order to maintain this metabolism you need to yeat a lot more...

yes... mammals and birds are the only warm blooded vertebrates if I'm not mistaken. To sustain the constant body temp, they have to metabolize and generate heat.
