what does 'code' mean?
ie:DNA codes for synthesis of protein...........and others

In terms of DNA synthesis,

The "code" refers to a connection between the sequence of nucleotides found on a DNA chain and the amino-acid sequence of the protein that results
e.g. the codon ACT, after translated with mRNA and tRNA, corresponds to a specific amino acid.
