NaCl is used to keep DNA in helix form for the DNA binding studies with inorganic complexes. However, if the use of Cl- source is to be avoided, is there any alternative, for example using sodium acetate, for the same purpose of maintaining the helix structure of the DNA? What are the individual role playing by Na+ and Cl- respectively in this case? Thanks at advanced.
