Mendel Questions

How does Mendel's theory of Segregation relate to what we now know about meiosis?
And
How does his theory of Independent Assortment relate to what we now know about meiosis?

1. Regarding segregation
The two alleles of an organism separate during meiosis. Mendel proposed similar ideas in his theory of particulate inheritance.

2. Regarding independent assortment
Again the 2 alleles separate during meiosis. Mendel stated that the appearance of one trait is independent from the appearance of another.
