CATALASE in heart and muscles

Post by theKING » Sun May 14, 2006 9:44 am

hi ive done an experiment on catalase breaking down h2o2 to give h2o and o2 in different tissues.

the liver and kidney produces a high reaction rate which i know is because the kidneys remove waste procuts, which is what h2o2 is and the liver is the main detoxifying organ producing more h2o2 as a by-product meaning there are more catalase present to remove the h2o2.

the heart and the muscle tissues has a small reaction rate meaning there are very few catalase enzymes present???????

can anyone tell me why there are some catalase enzymes present in the heart and muscle and are they needed in these tissues.
