A pathogen is anything that causes disease or illness in an organism. An example of a pathogen would be HIV, the virus that causes AIDS. Anothers would be the strain of E. Coli that causes gastrointestinal problems.

In general viruses are pathogens, though a specific virus may only infect a select organism.

Many -- but not all-- bacteria are pathogens, espcially those that are Gram negative.

Hope this helps.

Which of the following could be called "pathogens"?
A. viruses

C.viroids
D.viruses and viroids
E. viruses, bacteria, and viroids

I know that bacteria and viruses could be called pathogens, but are viroids also?

Yes, all 3 are pathogens. In the case of viroids, they're a type of plant pathogen similar to a virus.
