Phyl is used to indicate leaf. So it's like the middle of the leaf.

Meso means the middle and Phyll usually to indicate leaf.Because it located in the middle of ovul.For the male gametes to get inside of ovul for double fertilisation(angiosperm)

Ovul? I know a mesophyll which is a layer in the leaf. Are we talking about something different?
