[Electrophoresis] Gel making buffers

Post by bbs_r » Thu Mar 30, 2006 8:53 am

Are there any differences between the agarose gels made by TAE and TBE buffers?

If they are the same, why there are 2 types of buffer exist?

Thank you very much!

TBE buffer more effective for separation of short fragment ( >2000 bp, and particularly ~300bp)

Separation speed higher in TAE buffer. And buffer capacity lower than in TBE.

terrible sorry for my english :)

TAE has less buffering capacity than TBE, but it is much easily available and less expensive than TBE.
