Post by swatkat » Fri Mar 24, 2006 2:25 pm

i got a question
what is the best material for studying mitosis in the lab?
a)anther
b)root tip
c)leaf tip
what if i add another option
d)shoot tip
i think both root and shoot tips can be used
but i have never been to a lab and am not sure

I have no idea what a shoot tip is, but rrot tip is ok. But you need a good microscope

In that case, yes, a shoot tip would also be good.
The classic study of mitosis is done on root cells of onion

root tips will always be a better option for studying mitosis , as shoot tips might cause a problem in visualization due to presence of chloroplasts. onion , garlic root tips give exellent results for mitotic studies
