osmotic/water potentials

Post by morkspoke » Wed Mar 01, 2006 1:27 pm

What is the difference of osmotic potential and water potential?

I did this experiment with potatos tissue, where we weigh them before and after being exposed to different concentrations of sucrose. What exacly is the equilibrium (when there is no weigh gain or loss)? Because I got a figure (-860kPa) which is the osmotic potential of the potato cells, what does that mean exacly?

I'm kind of stuck here. If you can answer these three questions I'll be very greatful! Thanks[/i]
