freshwater unicellular

does anyone know what happens to a freashwater unicellular that is suddenly released into salt water or a good site to find this info out thanks joanna :D

it will probably suffer from draught, I think :x
:wink: I mean it will lose water, because of it's hipotonic cytoplasma. the concentration of salt in its cytoplasma is lower than one in the sea water. So, H2O will leave the cell into the surrounding. Without water in its body, the cell will die. It can't do most of important metabolisms which can cnly occur in the presence of water. :wink:

actually it depends on wether it has a cell wall or not. While it would die in both cases, if it has a cell wall plasmolysis occurs and it survives longer
