Journal help

Post by Squawkbox » Mon Feb 06, 2006 8:18 pm

Hey, i have an assignment which is to find a primary source of research and summarise it like it would be in New Scientist. Problem is i dont understand a word of any of the journals ive looked at so far. Does any one have any suggestions as to where i can find something that is easier to understand?
Cheers

PS. I do hope none of you is my lecturer :? :!:

Only suggestion I can give u is to use a dictionary...I mean the structure should be pretty easy except some of the terminology makes me loopy...

It doesn't matter which journal you pick they are all written in "scientific language", which might be hard to understand especially if you don't have enough background in science. The trick is to choose the right topic where it would be easier to understand the article. I'd go for Ecology, Evolution or even Population Genetics.

Are you sure you have to pick a primary article? Would a review article suffice?

Try this. Those are primary journal, still young but some are pretty good. They are free. But it will be hard to find one tha is easy to understand.

PS: the Public Library of Science is an initatitive to make scentific journal freely accessible to everyone (you pay a small fee to publish, and nothing to read). Worth a try.
