Scientists find a new approach to cancer immune therapy

Current immune therapies for cancer only activate the adaptive immune system. Although these therapies have improved cancer treatment, sometimes they are ineffective. Now, an article published in Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences has revealed that removing sugar molecules from the surface of breast cancer cells is able to activate the innate immune system, and that this method increases the effectiveness of an antibody drug called Herceptin.
