A transcription factor promotes colorectal cancer growth

Post by whbio » Tue Aug 02, 2016 9:27 am

Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most popular and lethal cancers in America. It is caused by genetic mutations and epigenetic changes. For the first time, MUSC researchers have found that KLF12 promotes CRC tumor growth by directly activating early growth response protein 1 (EGR1), and both KLF12 and EGR1 levels contribute to the bad clinical outcome in CRC patients.

Cancer has been sometimes described as a disease of transcription factors. If you inhibit KLF12 in grafted tumors does the tumor shrinks ?
