Calvin Cycle/CO2 - after fixation

Post by beazfour » Fri Jul 01, 2016 10:39 pm

This may be very obvious but I seem to be missing it as I try to research. I'm feeling pretty comfortable with my understanding of photosynthesis, in general. What I am wondering is after RuBisCO catalyses the joining of RuBP and the carbon from CO2 what happens with the O2? Is it, also part of the resulting 3-PGA molecules? Is it released into the atmosphere? Is it just released into the stroma to be utilized in another way? Binds to another molecule?

Thanks to anyone who can give me some insight. I was discussing the Calvin cycle with someone today and it just occurred to me that I didn't have a clue about this part.
