My mind defines cells as the structural and functional basic unit of an organism.

DNA is sometimes reffered to as the building blocks of life since somebody thought that the Watson-Crick model looked like building blocks and the idea sorta caught on...

Cell:
Its is the functional and structural unit. It serve as a building blog of life.
DNA:
DNA is present in the Nucleus of cell which is present inside Nucleus Membrane. DNA serve as a recorder which record Genetic information of parent cell.

well i dont really think that a virus is life so the virus doesnt matter

a virns doesnt really do anything on its own and it totally relies on the cell for replication so really the cell is the functional unit for virus too
