I just watched a clip on some AIDS patients and the treatments not too long ago. I don't remember the specifics but the clip talked about how people with HIV are always on new drugs and treatments because the virus is constantly adapting to the new environments inside the body to where they eventually become immune to whatever drug is being used. So a possible new treatment was to take the patients off of the drugs entirely for a couple of months allowing the original virus to spring back inside the body and then hit it hard with a bunch of drugs. I don't know if it was a success because the furthest I watched it was to the beginning of the new technique. However the patients liked the idea of staying off drugs for a little while, they said that it made them feel normal again.

Here's what I read:
AIDS patient are given three drugs slow the syndrome.
1. AZT known as zidovudine. it's used as nucleoside analogous to prevent further HIV infection.

2. Lamivudine...(same with AZT but both of them must be used together to result the effect)

3. Indinavir, a protease inhibitor. used to prevent further widespread of HIV inside the body.

this is called triple-drug therapy..but unfortunately, AZT can cause bone marrow deficiency and also acts like immunosuppresant agent..so, you free from AIDS (not HIV) but you're also preparing to be attacked by another virus..usually CMV..
why CMV, because CMV is believed can colaborate with HIV..cool isn't it??
