University of California, Berkeley

Jr./Asst. Specialist-California Institute for Quantitative Biosciences

Overview:

Translation regulation is an emerging paradigm in our understanding of gene regulation in humans. However, our understanding of the molecular basis for translation regulation is sparse. Future advances in our understanding will require studying the biochemistry and biophysics of translation from endogenously purified human translation machinery. This will require genome editing of human cell lines to enable these mechanistic studies.

Responsibilities:

The candidate will work on genome editing technologies in human cells aimed at modifying genes for translation components. The Jr/Asst. Specialist will carry out genome editing experiments in consultation with graduate students and postdoctoral scholars in the laboratory. The Jr/Asst. Specialist will also need to keep an organized laboratory notebook, and communicate clearly with neighboring labs about technology developments in genome editing.

Minimum/Basic Qualifications required at the time of application:

The candidate must have a B.S. or equivalent in a field related to Molecular and Cell Biology.

Additional Qualifications required by start date:

Experience with cloning, light microscopy, sterile technique, microbial culturing, and biochemistry.

The candidate must also have demonstrated ability in using CRISPR/Cas9 genome editing in human cells. The candidate must also have carried out protein purifications and RNA synthesis.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates with bioinformatics capabilities will be preferred.

Annual Salary Range: $38,856 - -$48,048 depending on experience. This is a full-time, one-year position with the possibility of extension.
