I can't do like I did in the Corps, with only four hours per night and sometimes staying up for three days straight, but I feel like I've overslept if I get seven or eight. Lately I've been averaging between five and six hours per night.

Actually I train myself to get by on as little sleep as possible, since I'd rather use the extra time for more important things like writing poetry or reading the Bible.

The Marine Corps requires a lot out of a person in terms of emotional and mental stamina; the other branches, I hear, are not quite as demanding but still no walk in the park.

Do you remember the waitress I told you about a few nights ago, the one that I went to Waffle House with one night after work?

I was just thinking about her. Her name's Samantha, and I found her MySpace profile earlier today. It turns out she's a poet too, and her poetry really impressed me.
